Software Assurance What It Is and How It Works

Overview

Software Assurance is a service included automatically on your Better Comms account. This article explains what it covers, when it is charged, and how to opt out.

What is Software Assurance?

Software Assurance is a proactive service that keeps your telecoms software secure, up to date, and performing at its best. It covers the ongoing development, optimisation, and protection of your software beyond your original installation.

How is it different from my maintenance agreement?

Your account includes two separate layers of cover:

Component What it covers
Maintenance & Warranty Support Keeps your hardware and platform running
Licence Gives you the right to use the system
Software Assurance Keeps your software up to date, secure, and improving

Your maintenance agreement covers hardware faults, platform failures, and warranty repairs. Software Assurance covers the software layer — updates, new features, and security patches that are released after your installation date.

What does it include?

Software Assurance provides:

  • Regular software updates and new features released after installation
  • Security patches to protect against emerging vulnerabilities
  • Performance improvements and system optimisation
  • Compatibility updates for new devices and integrations
  • Ongoing software support and remote issue resolution

What does it not cover?

Software Assurance does not cover:

  • Hardware faults
  • Platform failures
  • Physical equipment issues
  • Warranty related repairs

These remain covered under your Telephone System Maintenance Agreement.

When is it charged?

  • Software Assurance is free for the first 9 months of your agreement
  • It is charged at £4.99 per phone per month from month 9 onwards

Is it mandatory?

No. Software Assurance is an opt-out service. It is included automatically on all accounts but can be removed at any time by contacting us.

If you choose to opt out your system will continue to function, however it will no longer receive software updates, new features, or the same level of ongoing protection.

How do I opt out?

Contact our billing team and we will arrange removal. This can be done at any time and will take effect from your next billing period.

When to contact us

Contact our billing team if:

  • You would like to opt out of Software Assurance
  • You have a question about the charge on your invoice
  • You would like to understand what updates or features have been applied to your system
