My service is live but my number hasn’t ported, what’s happening?

Short answer

This is normal during setup. Your service can be live using a temporary number while your existing number is still with your previous provider. Once the port completes, your number will move across automatically.

Why this happens

Number porting and service activation are two separate steps:

  • Your phones or service can be set up and tested before the port completes

  • Your existing number remains active with your old provider until the agreed port date

This allows your service to be ready without waiting for the port to finish.

What is a temporary number?

A temporary number:

  • Allows you to make and receive calls during setup

  • Is only known internally and not shared publicly

  • Is automatically replaced once your number ports

No action is required to switch from the temporary number.

What happens when the port completes

  • Your existing number automatically replaces the temporary number

  • Calls and routing move across with no additional setup

  • There may be a short interruption (usually a few minutes) during the switch

Do I need to do anything?

No.

  • The transfer happens automatically

  • There’s no need to change settings or reconfigure your service
