Can invoice details, such as the company name, be changed?
Short answer
Invoices are addressed to the company name recorded on your account. This can only be changed in certain circumstances, such as a novation or a registered company name change.
When invoice details can be changed
Invoice details may be updated if:
-
Your business is undergoing a novation (change of legal entity), or
-
Your company name has changed and been registered with Companies House
In these cases, supporting documentation is required before changes can be made.
What is a novation?
A novation is a formal process where a contract is transferred from one legal entity to another.
If a novation is required:
-
We will provide a novation form for completion
-
The company name and billing details will be updated once the process is complete
Company name changes
If your company name has changed:
-
The updated name must be registered with Companies House
-
Once confirmed, invoice details can be updated accordingly
This ensures invoices remain legally correct.
What cannot be changed
-
Invoices cannot be retrospectively reissued to a different company
-
Invoice details cannot be changed without formal confirmation or documentation
